JEFFREY A. KONIGSBERG

JEFFREY A. KONIGSBERG“Make your vocation your avocation,” says Jeff Konigsberg, long time owner of two prestigious summer camps - Camp Takajo for boys in Naples, Maine, and Tripp Lake Camp for girls in Poland, Maine. Since purchasing Camp Takajo in 1988, Jeff has been a hands-on owner and director, devoting his life to helping children explore the world and learn about themselves and their surroundings in a safe, nurturing environment.

A leader in the camping profession, Jeff’s vision and innovative thinking have made Camp Takajo the standard by which summer camps are measured. Jeff is an active member of the American Camping Association and the Maine Youth Camping Association, through which he promotes a better summer camping environment for the entire camping community, ensuring that not only his camps, but all camps employ proper risk management techniques and promotes the highest standards of health and safety for children.

In 2000 Jeff married TV journalist Joan Lunden who has been a long time advocate for the health and safety of women and children. Jeff and Joan started their own family in 2003 with the birth of twins, Max and Kate. Two years later Jeff and Joan’s family grew with the arrival of their second set of twins, Kim and Jack. As the parents of two sets of young rambunctious twins, Jeff and Joan recognized the difficulties of staying connected to four children while out in public. Knowing that it can only take a second for a child to vanish, and not content with the products available, they set out to find an answer.

“Necessity is the mother of invention,” says Jeff and Joan, who spent a year designing, developing, testing, and manufacturing KinderKord as a way for parents and children to stay connected without the stigma of a leash or a harness. They have been involved in every step of the development, from patent to sales, and they continue to nurture the growth of their product daily. Everywhere they go, Jeff and Joan keep their little ones close with the help of KinderKord. It has not only provided them with comfort and security as parents, but it has also given them firsthand, personal experience in the development of this innovative product.
